“Good skin needs care, and that means more than applying a lubricating cream every now and then… No matter what your age or skin problem is, it’s never too late to start babying your complexion.”
Arlene Dahl, “A Three Part Journey: Beyond Beauty”; Page 18-19
But what is good skin? Look at the newborn babies. They have the most beautiful skin. Because of the balanced of moisture, fat, and oil is perfect in their skin. And because of this perfect balance we see a glow in their skin. But it changes gradually with age.
Till the late 90s, it was believed that in our Indian climate one could retain this radiance till his/her age of 20. But now we see problems occur much before that. And there are many reasons behind that.
All skin is made up of the same ingredients but everyone’s skin is so different from others. All these different types of skin fall into four major categories i.e. normal, oily, dry and combination skin. And when problems like sensitive skin, acne, blemishes, tan, pigmentation, melasma get mixed-up with this, things become a little complicated.
There are many different treatments, products, therapies to cure these problems. But we believe a good skin care must start at home and in an everyday basis. Because these problems rarely occur all of a sudden, rather due to unawareness and ignorance. There are many unavoidable situations. For example if you need to cook every day, gradually you will grow wrinkles and pigmentation due to the heat. If you need to travel every day in dusty-humid condition your skin tends to have problems like acne, tan, pigmentation and many more. But a good care every day can definitely prevent these problems. And a good care includes washing face with gentle face wash, application of moisturizer, occasional exfoliation. But you must be careful about selecting the right product for your skin.
Many of us believe that since baby skins are beautiful and soft, baby creams would also make our skin beautiful and soft, which is completely wrong. Because structure of our skin keeps changing as we grow older. Balance of fat, moisture also changes. So it is always advised to use age and skin appropriate cosmetics for regular use.
As we grow older we confront many skin problems like oily-sticky skin, dry skin, sensitive skin, acne, pimples, blackheads, patching, dark spots, skin tan, melasma, wrinkles and many more. Not only external factors affect our skin, there are many internal factors also responsible for these problems. Specially our food habit, water consumption, sleeping time, hormonal changes, medication even mental health can deeply upset our skin condition.
A methodical skin care certainly can improve your skin condition, but correct diagnosis of the problem is important before starting any skin care treatment.
That is why client counseling is the most important part for us before we start any skin treatment for any one of our clients. It invokes trust and confidence both for the client and for the beauty artist.
